My Search for Coconut Oil

Quote for the day:

"Cheerfulness is the very flower of health"
Japanese Proverb

My search for Coconut Oil has taken me from one valley to the next looking for the elusive item. Suppose it would have helped had i done a bit more research and then i would not have been looking for oil in the cooking oil section. Turns out i found it in the exotic solid fats section of Askews in Salmon Arm. Was worth the search - my baked potates never tasted so good!

After doing what was supposed to be a liver cleanse and firing out over 3 boulders and a bunch of stones from my gallbladder - it feels like a whole new lease on life. With that event out of the way (took all of 4 1/2 hours and no pain) have found myself looking at even more healthier options and came across coconut oil.

Here are some interesting tidbits on coconut oil:

1. Used in commercially prepared products such as cookies, candies, ice cream, whipped toppings, and nondairy coffee creamers.

2. Used in the manufacture of various cosmetics, soaps, lotions, and suntan oils and is very beneficial in maintaining healthy skin.

3. Contains a high level of saturated fat (92%). There are several studies that have indicated that the saturated fat in coconut oil metabolizes in the body similar to an unsaturated fat and as a result, LDL (bad) cholesterol will not increase.

4. It is much like a carbohydrate: it digests rapidly and it is used for immediate energy rather than being stored as fat. As a result, a greater quantity of coconut oil can be consumed before it is stored as fat.

5. People who have problems in receiving adequate nourishment, such as AIDS patients, have benefited from the addition of coconut oil to their diets.

6. Lauric and capric acids, found in coconut have been highly praised for their antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal functions.

7. Natural coconut fat in the diet leads to a normalization of body lipids, protects against alcohol damage to the liver, and improves the immune system's anti-inflammatory response.

8. Strengthens the immune system and promotes optimal development of the brain and nervous system.

9. Protects against cancer and heart disease, and promotes healthy bones.

10. The best fat for ensuring the proper uptake of omega-3 fatty acids into the tissues, as well as supporting metabolism.

~Use for all higher heat applications, including stir frying - Maximum temperature of 375°F/190°C.
~Excellent for baking—can be substituted for butter in most recipes.
~Use in blender drinks to add fuel and energy in the morning.

~Omega Nutrition

That's it and that's a bunch of good stuff for one little coconut!

P.S. Had I not found Cure Zone and it's wonderful alternative health information it is doubtful i would have lived another year or two. Had developed all the symptoms my mother had and subsequently passed away from (main stream medicine couldn't help her or me). So Hip Hip Hooray for Alternative Medicine used with discernment and wisdom.
